It's really official now...

This week brought the return of Chelsey's sister to work. I can't even imagine how difficult it would be or has been. I would wonder if normalcy is possible. She's a strong person with a lot of support, so we all know she'll keep 'muddling through'.
With M's return came the announcement and request for permission to continue Team Chelsey. Luckily all those afternoons on the elliptical and Total Gym were not for naught. We officially got the go ahead....so it seems as though I'm really going to have to run 3.1 miles in a few months here. Scary thought. But still totally committed to the cause.
M's going to have a talk with their mom and decide where the money will go. So anyone who keeps checking back with itchy fingers just waiting to pass some cash, hold tight...we'll soon have an answer.
Thanks again for stopping by. Oh, and rumor has it that M herself would like to post here. How cool is that? Looking forward to all that comes to be here with Team Chelsey!

I've been slacking...

Luckily, the slacking is merely on posting--not on the training. Had a good week of working out...Monday and Wednesday were spent on the elliptical, Tuesday and Thursday were strength training days, and yesterday was actual road work. Based on how my shins feel today, I'll probably spend most of my cardio training time on the elliptical for awhile.
I think tomorrow is the day we'll talk to Chelsey's sister. We'll let her know about Team Chelsey and get her thinking about where she would like the money to go. More to come on that, and hopefully soon!

Strength in numbers

Since it's inception (just two days ago), Team Chelsey has already grown to be 12 members strong. March 2 will be a show of force, but for all the right reasons. And it's been determined we will have t-shirts made for the team. Dr T, our highly regarded mentor and team member, has mandated the t-shirts be v-necks. After all, they are more attractive. We may even open a design contest here on the blog page. As the run is in early March, these shirts will most likely need to be long-sleeved--consider that in your renderings and subsequent submissions.

We're still working out the details as far as where the money will go, how we will collect it, etc. One idea is to add a PayPal link/button right here on the page. Another is, once the charity is determined, to add a link to donate directly to them from here. Any comments, preferences, or suggestions?

Oh, and for the record...the name of the blog refers only to me. No one else on Team Chelsey has been designated a fat ass, and I have taken the label for myself. Besides, it's got a nice ring to it, no?

Team Chelsey is officially up and running...pun intended.

And so we begin. There is a small group (although it grows daily) who have committed to running a 5K March 2, 2007. And while a commitment to getting in shape is a benefit, it's not our main purpose with this endeavor.

A couple of weeks ago, the younger sister of one of our co-workers (and friends) was in a fatal car accident. Though most of us had never met the sister, we were obviously affected by her extremely premature and tragic passing. And as is human nature in these situations, we all tried to find a way in which we could help our grieving friend and her family...thus Team Chelsey was born.

Those of us coming together to train for this 5K are now shamelessly soliciting donations and sponsorships. All of the funds raised by 'race day' will be donated, in Chelsey's name, to the organization Chelsey's family chooses.

Anyone who is interested in lending their support, financial or otherwise, please feel free to email us for further information.

In the coming days and weeks, what you will see here are bios of some of the runners, progress reports on the training, updates on funds raised and their destination, and anything else we think may be relevant or poignant. There are many in this group who haven't run in awhile, some who have never run before, and some who can't even remember the last time they walked fast. So check back often to see how things are progressing. Encouragement along the way will be greatly appreciated I'm sure.

Thanks for stopping by.
